Siren
Victor wrote Siren in 1999 while he was still trying to find work after moving to California. For the first 8 weeks after moving from New Hampshire, Victor cleaned up construction sites while looking for a job in software, and saved money by living in his Jeep. One day, while sitting in a parking lot at Seal Beach, Victor saw the cliffs in the distance covered with a light fog, and it reminded him of a mythological setting. Victor also remembered some of his friends in Massachusetts who were struggling with addiction. Since he considered addiction to be like the song of the Siren of Greek mythology, he was suddenly inspired to write this song.
Troy Spiropoulos, founder, bass player, and lead singer of Slow Burning Car liked the song enough to professionally produce it and put it on the band's second album, "Volume 2 - The Scattering", which was released in 2009. Mike Zimmerman is on drums, Troy is on bass and background vocals, Victor is on keys and lead vocals, and the guitar wizardry on this track is supplied by Duc "Jim" Le.
